The Theatre

The Valley Dance Theatre, a non profit ballet company, was formed in 1980 by Betsy Hausburg and Penny Tomasello with the goals of providing performance opportunities for talented local dancers and bringing affordable, quality dance performances to the valley. Since then, the company has offered semi-annual performances. The December show is a full length production of Tchaikovsky's holiday classic "The Nutcracker" with the Livermore-Amador Symphony. In May, the company chooses from a variety of classical and contemporary repertoires and collaborations.

Now directed by Betsy Hausburg and Margaret Kenrick, the Valley Dance Theatre company works on a volunteer basis to provide professional-quality theatrical productions. VDT does not participate in recitals or competitions, nor is there a performance or costume fee. VDT performers wear exquisite, professionally designed and sewn costumes owned by the company, purchasing only their shoes and tights.

The School

In 2000, the Valley Dance Theatre opened its own studio to offer the high quality dance education required by the company. The School of the Valley Dance Theatre's primary focus is classical ballet, but other dance styles are taught as needed.

Co-directed by Ms. Hausburg and Ms. Kenrick, the school boasts an outstanding resident faculty who share a dedication to and enthusiasm for dance. Tuition is reasonable, and financial assistance is available for dedicated students.

Located in Livermore's charming historical railroad depot, the studio is air-conditioned and comfortable, with a professional-quality sprung dance floor. The school welcomes visitors during class time, but to arrange a tour, please call 243-0925 or contact us by email.
